Do I need a child travel consent form?

Do I need a child travel consent form?

Alert
If you're planning to travel with a child under 16 who is not your own, or if you and the child have different surnames, UK Border Force has specific requirements to ensure the child's safety and prevent child trafficking. Here's a summary of the key regulations and what you need to prepare:

Required documentation at check-in
  1. Travel Consent Form – Signed by the child’s parent or legal guardian.
  2. Copy of ID – A copy of the parent or guardian’s passport or photo driving licence.
  3. Proof of Guardianship – If you are the child’s legal guardian but have a different surname, bring documents such as:
    1. Birth or adoption certificate
    2. Divorce/marriage certificate (if applicable)
    3. Court order or child arrangement order (if relevant)
Alert
Border Force Checks
Border Force officers may ask questions to establish your relationship with the child. This is part of their legal duty under Section 55 of the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act 2009 to safeguard and promote the welfare of children

They may request:
  1. A letter of authority from the parent(s) with contact details
  2. Evidence of your relationship with the child
  3. Details of the trip (especially for longer stays)
Alert
Failure to provide the required documentation may result in being denied embarkation
